Children's Care

Good dental care should start early, to protect your child’s teeth for a lifetime of great smiles! Those baby teeth that begin coming through the gums around 6 months help set the stage for future smiles by keeping space in the jaw for adult teeth.

Parents should take children to a dentist no later than their first birthday. Children should feel comfortable with their dentist and the earlier they start the better!

Dental care should begin at home right away, and our staff will be happy to answer any questions you have. Before a child’s first appointment, you can begin cleaning your baby’s mouth during the first few days after birth by wiping the gums with a clean, moist gauze pad or washcloth. As soon as teeth appear, decay can occur, so proper brushing and flossing is important.

Until you’re comfortable that your child can brush on his or her own, brush your child's teeth twice a day with a child-size toothbrush and a pea-sized amount of toothpaste. When your child has two teeth that touch, you should begin flossing their teeth daily.

Get your child in the habit of going to bed with clean teeth, and never let them go to bed with a bottle or sippy cup containing anything other than water. Having access to juice and sweet drinks all day can increase the likelihood of tooth decay.
